About the product
Most personal finance overviews are organised by calendar month. In practice, paydays, recurring bills and daily spending do not always follow those boundaries. When you plan around a payday, the standard monthly view can feel out of step with reality.
ezAccounting is an independent desktop prototype built around a practical question: how can transactions, categories and budgets become easier to understand when financial periods follow a salary cycle rather than the first and last day of a month?
Starting with the salary cycle
A financial overview becomes useful when its time frame matches the decisions it supports. With ezAccounting, I am exploring ways to follow income and spending through a personal cycle, without letting a calendar-month boundary interrupt the picture.
Giving transactions useful structure
Individual transactions only tell part of the story. Relating them to categories and budgets offers a better starting point for understanding patterns and trade-offs. The prototype explores how these pieces can form a clear desktop workflow without the complexity of a full accounting package.
An ongoing software experiment
ezAccounting is an owned prototype in development, not a finished accounting product or a financial service. The focus is on working through the data model, financial periods and interface decisions that could make personal budgeting easier to navigate.
It is a small project with a wider principle behind it: useful software should follow the way people actually work.
